Mattel to issue William and Kate dolls for royal anniversary (Reuters)
(Reuters) ? The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are really getting dolled up for the first anniversary of their royal wedding.
Mattel Inc, the U.S. maker of Barbie dolls, said this week it will release a special two-doll set in April to mark the one-year anniversary of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding at Westminster Abbey.
The figures, part of Mattel's Barbie Collector series, will come dressed up in outfits duplicating those the couple wore in a ceremony that was viewed by an estimated 3 billion people worldwide.
For William, that means a pint-sized version of his red Irish Guards outfit with a bright blue sash.
For Kate, that means a miniature of the traditional white dress and veil she wore, as well as a teeny-tiny tiara just like the diamond-studded original she borrowed from Queen Elizabeth.
The price for the two-doll set is $100 and Mattel is taking pre-orders at www.barbiecollector.com.
The royal couple joins others in Mattel's Barbie Collector, including country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, as well as TV stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

If anything, it?s surprising that the studio is allowing an extra year of breathing room before cranking out this fourth film. Whether that time is being allotted in order to allow Bay to finish work on some of the ?smaller films? he?s been itching to work on (see: Pain & Gain)?is probably going to be a point of much speculation ? but it could just as easily be a case of the TF3?s continued success delaying the start of work on TF4, or the studio having a crowded summer 2013 schedule already in place. Of course, these points are not mutually exclusive, and it could be any combination of them that has TF4?on course for 2014.
Now that a deadline has been set, we can expect to see the ball get rolling on the film fairly soon. So, questions like ?Is Bay coming back?? ?Will TF4 and TF5 shoot back-to-back?? ?Is Jason Statham really going to star?? ?Will it take place somewhere other than Earth?? etc., will start to get answered sooner, rather than later.

Survey: Employer insurance declines (Politico)
Fewer Americans received health insurance from their employer in 2011, continuing a trend that has seen the figure decline over the past three years.
According to Gallup, 44.6 percent of Americans received health insurance from an employer in 2011, compared with 45.8 percent in 2010. In 2008, 49.2 percent of Americans received their insurance from their employer.

High-income Americans, those making $90,000 or more a year, were most likely to receive health insurance from their employer, at 70.4 percent. Only 23.7 percent of those making less than $36,000 a year received health insurance from their employer.
The Gallup survey was conducted Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2011, with a random sample of 353,492 adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 1 percentage point.

Nuclear Reactor Approved in U.S. for First Time Since 1978

Years of shifting and smoothing Georgia red clay paid off today, as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) voted to allow construction of two new nuclear reactors?(pdf) at the Plant Vogtle nuclear power station near Augusta. Atlanta?based utility giant Southern Co. will soon have permission to complete construction and operate two AP1000 type nuclear reactors designed by Westinghouse.
But what were initially lauded as the first reactors of a nuclear renaissance when proposed are more likely to be the exceptions that prove the rule of no new nuclear construction in the U.S. Only this twin set of reactors in Georgia, another pair in South Carolina and the completion of an old reactor in Tennessee are likely to be built in the U.S. for at least the next decade. "We won't build large numbers of new nuclear plants in the U.S. in the near term," says Marvin Fertel, president of the Nuclear Energy Institute, a lobbying group for the nuclear industry.
The problem is twofold: electricity demand in the U.S. is not growing and natural gas, which can be burned to generate electricity, is cheap. As a result, utilities are building more natural gas?burning turbines rather than more expensive nuclear power plants.
"Today, you ought to build gas," Fertel admits. But "you don't want to build only gas."
That may become even truer as old coal-fired power plants are forced to retire by new pollution rules and/or natural gas prices rebound. Given the long lead times required to gain permits and actually build a nuclear power plant, however, five new reactors may be as many as the U.S. will see erected during this decade. "If they are built, I suspect all of them are post-2020," says Fertel of other reactor applications awaiting NRC review.
In fact, the only reason utilities in Georgia and South Carolina are building the new reactors is because the governments in those states have allowed them to pre-charge customers for their cost. Southern Co. is already charging customers $3.73 per month for the reactors' construction, expected to cost roughly $14 billion, and may receive a more than $8-billion loan guarantee from the federal government. In the absence of a national government policy that puts a premium on electricity generation that results in fewer emissions of greenhouse gases, there is little incentive to build nuclear power plants in the U.S. "If we get back to the carbon discussion, that will have an effect on new plants that are built," argues Bill Johnson, CEO of Progress Energy, one of the utilities filing for a construction license but with no plans to actually build a nuclear power plant in the near future. "Nuclear can't compete today.
Other than the Watts Bar unit No. 2 in Tennessee, which will simply be the completion of a reactor that started construction in the 1970s, the four new plants will all employ a novel design?the AP1000. They will be the first to employ so-called passive safety features, or technology that kicks in with or without human intervention. In the case of the AP1000 that means cooling water sits above the reactor core and, in the event of a meltdown like the ones at Fukushima Daiichi, will flow via gravity into the core to cool it with the automatic opening of a heat-sensitive valve.

Iran paying for grain with gold, oil: traders (Reuters)
PARIS/HAMBURG (Reuters) ? Iran is seeking to close grain purchases using gold and oil as payment, and has paid yen for a large volume of wheat as it steps up efforts to beat sanctions that had started to choke imports of food staples, European wheat exporters said.
Iran bought at least 200,000 tonnes of soft wheat on the world market last week for prompt delivery from private sellers - mostly of Australian origin - but some traders said the United States could possibly account for part of the volume.
The Islamic republic also bought about 200,000 tonnes of Brazilian wheat and around 200,000 tonnes of German wheat in the past two days for nearby shipment, traders said. They could give no details on how Iran would pay for those cargoes.
New financial sanctions imposed since the beginning of this year to punish Tehran over its nuclear program have ended up playing havoc with Iran's ability to buy imports and receive payment for key food items.
The sanctions have drastically cut its ability to obtain euro and dollar denominated financing, forcing Tehran to find alternative ways to pay for its imports.
Traders believed the Iranian government had used companies based in Switzerland capable of financing themselves in Asia, and used yen-based contracts to finance the 200,000-tonne mostly Australian origin purchase.
"The big multi-national trading houses seem to be switching quickly into payments with other currencies, barter deals with oil or payment in gold as they have the financial expertise to deal with it," one European trader said. "For the smaller grain trading companies it's not so easy.
"The grain trade with Iran is being seriously hampered but is continuing."
A fall in maize supplies from major exporter Ukraine due to sanction-related payment problems prompted Iranian animal feed makers to turn to wheat, reducing volume for food and compelling the Islamic Republic to turn to the world market.
In an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, U.S. agri-giant Cargill's vice chairman said shipments were still possible with Iran, notably through payments in currencies other than the dollar.
Iranian Trade Secretary Rahul Khullar told reporters on Thursday that one private Iranian buyer was interested in importing "a very large quantity" of wheat from India.
Iran, which may not be self-sufficient in wheat this season partly due to an expected lower harvest, usually favors Australian, Canadian and even in some years U.S. wheat when it imports due to their high protein levels, as opposed to Argentine, Black Sea or European wheat origins.
GOLD, OIL
Iran, which is still in the market to buy additional wheat supplies, is also considering barter deals to feed its 74 million people weeks before a presidential election, they said.
Grain ships are stuck outside Iranian ports and exports of staples to Iran such as maize, sugar, palm oil and rice are being hindered as collecting payment from buyers gets harder.
"Grain deals are being paid for in gold bullion and barter deals involving oil are being offered," one trader said. "Some of the major trading houses are involved," he added.
Traders said details of how barter deals work were still unclear as the problem had developed so quickly.
Iranian buyers have in the past side-stepped sanctions by booking business through third countries, especially Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, traders said. But this option had been suddenly closed as the UAE was not allowing sanction-breaking finance, they said.
"As the shipments of grain are so large, barter or gold payments are the quickest option," another trader said.
One European grains trader also said a project for preferential supplies between Iran and Kazakhstan for 2 million tonnes might be reactivated.
"One of the closest (supply) sources is Kazakhstan because the Iranians have solid links with this country but also because the two governments are centralized and deals can me made between states," Michel Ferret, head of the markets division at French farm office FranceAgriMer, said.
This would make even more sense if Iran went ahead with its threat to block the Strait of Hormuz, a vital Gulf oil shipping route, traders also said.
Data from the International Grains Council and the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimate that Iran should import around 500,000 tonnes of wheat in the 2011/2012 season up to the end of June but the sanctions and the lower maize supplies could lead to an increase in wheat needs.
Iran had said in July it would be self-sufficient in the production of wheat in the course of the year and was capable of exporting two million tonnes of wheat.

Ohio man pleads guilty to supporting al-Shabaab (Reuters)
MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) ? A 27-year-old Ohio man pleaded guilty on Monday to federal charges of helping raise money for al-Shabaab rebels in Somalia, prosecutors said.
Ahmed Hussein Mahamud pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a U.S. - designated terror group.
He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date.
Mahamud, who was indicted in June 2011, admitted to telling people in the Somali-American community in Minnesota the money would support a local Mosque or orphans but using it instead to help send men to Somalia to join Shabaab, according to a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.
Mahamud and others raised up to $1,500 in the effort, using some of the money on airline tickets or other expenses, according to the plea deal.
In other instances, Mahamud admitted to wiring $50 to a man in Somalia who was buying a firearm, $50 for other expenses to a second man and assisting someone in sending $100 to Somalia for a weapons purchase to support the organization, according to the plea agreement.
Mahamud, a Westerville, Ohio, resident who formerly lived in Minnesota, admitted to providing the support from 2008 through February of 2011.
Minnesota is home to the largest Somali-American population in the United States.
Since September 2007, about 20 men have left Minneapolis for Somalia to join Shabaab. Eighteen people have been charged in federal court in Minnesota so far in the investigation. Eight have been arrested and seven have pleaded guilty.
At least two of the men who have been charged in the Minnesota investigation are believed to have been killed in Somalia.
The guilty plea comes weeks after a U.S. bank decided to shut down wire transfer services that provide a lifeline from Minnesota to Somalia over concerns that it could risk violating U.S. regulatory and anti-terrorism finance laws.
Somali-Americans send about $100 million per year home to Somalia through small money transfer businesses because Somalia has no formal banking system.

Oh my, new crafts supplies? - I will craft.......
Maybe I should say new craft supplies from Oh My Crafts!?
Yesterday when I got home from my first day at a new job I was happy to see two packages, the Mark Montano book I won and a order of crafty goodness I placed last week.
I?ve seen the name Oh My Crafts! around for quite a while but only recently went to their website and did some looking which quickly lead to shopping.
I?m happy to tell you that I was very happy to find some great deals on items I?ve wanted and a few that I didn?t know I needed until I saw them. :)? I found lots of great items and didn?t spend too much money.? Just so you know, these are all my opinions, I?m not getting anything but joy from sharing my craft finds with you.
The first think I found that I knew I had to buy was this stamp and die cut set.
And this one.? There were a couple other ones that I liked too but I thought I?d use these two the most.?
The best part about the sets was that one was $12 and one was $14.99 ? they are priced $25.99 in my local craft store.? Even if I had a 40% off coupon I couldn?t get them for those prices.
Then I fell in love with these pleated paper pieces from Bazzill.? At only 99 cents each I picked up three colors.?
I know these Cuttlebug dies are a bit older but at $.19 to $.99 I couldn?t pass them up.? Yep you read that right one of these dies was only $.19!? They were $.19, $.29, $.39 and $.99 each.??
I think I might have found a bad site for me since I love scrounging around and finding crafty deals and my stash, supplies don?t need new additions.?
I can?t wait to craft with my new supplies.?

SEOUL (Reuters) ? South Korean officials have sent a letter of protest to Major League Baseball (MLB) accusing the Baltimore Orioles of breaking protocols in signing 17-year-old schoolboy pitcher Kim Seong-min.
The Korea Baseball Organisation (KBO) told Reuters on Tuesday they had demanded an explanation as to why they had not been informed discussions were taking place between the Orioles and Kim and that their MLB counterparts were examining the case.
Although there is nothing stopping foreign teams from signing Korean amateur players, the process needs to be done after making inquiries to the KBO first, the organization said.
"We have sent an official complaint to MLB," said Michael Park, the KBO's operations manager. "We were told they will look in to the case.
"They are investigating whether the Orioles did sign Kim to a contract."
The Orioles announced on their website(www.baltimore.orioles.mlb.com) last week they had signed Kim, who has represented South Korea at under-18 level.
Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette told the website: "We are glad to sign a player that our scouts feel is one of the top amateur left-handed pitchers in South Korea.
"Kim has an excellent curveball and very good control."

Greece pushes for deal with lenders on contested reforms (Reuters)
ATHENS (Reuters) ? Greece's government makes another push on Saturday to hammer out a deal with foreign lenders on a 130 billion euro bailout before turning to the trickier task of convincing wary political leaders to back the additional painful reforms involved.
On the brink of bankruptcy, Athens must wrap up talks with foreign lenders on the bailout and get political approval for it soon to ensure funds begin flowing in time for the country to pay back 14.5 billion euros of bonds falling due in mid-March.
But negotiations with its 'troika' of international lenders have struggled over their demands that it cut labor costs by axing holiday bonuses and lowering the minimum wage - proposals strongly opposed by Greek political party leaders.
After initial hopes that a deal with lenders from the European Union, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund could be secured on Friday, marathon negotiations ended early on Saturday with crucial issues still unresolved.
Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos was due to resume talks with lenders on Saturday in a bid to clinch agreement before technocrat Prime Minister Lucas Papademos calls the socialist, conservative and far-right leaders in his coalition to seek their blessing.
That meeting of party chiefs, initially scheduled for Saturday, has now been put off until Sunday afternoon, a government source said.
Increasingly frustrated with Athens' inability to enact the reforms needed to reshape the recession-hit Greek economy, foreign lenders have demanded proof of the country's commitment to spending cuts before doling out any more funds.
They want all the country's political chiefs - who are keen not to be linked directly with the painful reforms as they gear up for elections expected in April - to back the measures, irrespective of the outcome at the polls.
"Greek political leaders must offer their commitment to the program," said a source close to the lenders.
"No more loans will be approved if they don't."
The Kathimerini newsapaper reported on Saturday that if political leaders did not reach a deal on reforms, Papademos was considering asking them to either authorize a new round of negotiations with the troika or themselves join the discussions.
Ordinary Greeks are seething as round after round of austerity measures is imposed on them as the price for saving the country from default.
Protesters from a leftist group held a demonstration outside the prime minister's office on Saturday, holding up banners against the political parties and the troika.
Athens has repeatedly said the talks on a bond swap with private holders of Greek debt and on the bailout are in their final stage. But it has failed to secure either deal after weeks of wrangling, largely due to concern that the rescue plan will not do enough to cut Greece's debt burden to a manageable level.
European Union sources said on Friday that euro zone governments may now have to cough up an extra 15 billion euros on top of the 130 billion agreed in October because of the funds needed to recapitalize Greece's ailing banks.
Athens also wants public creditors like the European Central Bank to take part in the bond swap deal, under which banks and insurers will take real losses of about 70 percent on the Greek debt they hold.
The bond swap talks were now the easier part of the overall process to save Greece, Venizelos said earlier on Saturday.
Representatives for the banks and insurers are expected to be back in Athens to continue talks over the weekend.

It's funny how life works through things, and turns full circle at times.

This week I had the pleasure of having my niece to stay. Nothing unusual in that you may think, but my older sister and I, while always getting on ok, had pretty separate lives. We were both at different boarding schools and then she went off to University and worked overseas for a while before settling in a different part of the country. ?So while never an issue in our sibling relationship, separate lives had been led.
So I was pretty pleased when my 17 year old niece hit London for interviews at drama schools in London and needed somewhere to stay. It gave me the first real opportunity to sit and chat with her as an adult and get her feel for the arts and life.
As always, when those in their teens and twenties have ambition and passion, I get very struck by their drive. Perhaps because I never had that at their age, only recently discovering an intense love of my own artistic abilities. It?s always a reminder to me that wisdom doesn?t just reside in our elders, and we really can learn a lot from positivity, no matter what age group it belongs to.
My niece successfully passed one of the auditions, and if she chooses to take this up after she finishes sixth form, I?ll be delighted to have some more family in my part of the world and strengthen that bond with my own sister and my extended family in London.

Celebrating Motherhood: What's the state of your flock?

The puddles are deep around here on the farm. The rain has been coming down all day and we're stuck inside. I watch my flock and am attending to the things of my household and I notice the slightest of attitudes or signs of disrespect?and I make a mental note. I watch my flock as they eat together and play together and I notice brothers being unkind or sisters being too bossy and I write it down. My household, the one the Lord gave for me to run, is very important to me. My flock is even more important and when I see one wandering too far away I take to running to get them back.
I couldn't do these things if I weren't at home.. If I weren't standing?guard over this little flock of mine.

?I've seen so many parents believe the lie that my 2 year old is just being normal when she pitches a fit or it's normal for my teenage son to withdraw because that's what they do when they are becoming their own person. God never says any of this is..... ? ?

We allow it because it makes us feel good that our children are smart or atheltic and yet God says pride comes before a fall and we are setting our children up for a fall. Some of the children I have the hardest time being around come from wonderful Christian?homeschooled?families, mine included...it's those children that know all the answers and will tell their elders or other adults how wrong they are. Our arrogant little flocks are out of control and we think it's cute. ?We have created something in them that is muddy and cold, for our own egos. We allow them to correct adults and we don't teach them?discretion. What we don't realize is that our child will use that same know-it-all attitude on us but we won't think its so cute then. We'll try to disipline them for something we've allowed to grow.?
Self righteousness.?
I truly believe our society has planted and is watering the seed of self righteousness.
God help us as mothers to unearth that weed in our home. ??

Don't allow laziness and?disrespect to disrupt your whole flock because one thing I know...One child who jumps in a puddle will bring someone with them. You have the staff..You have the power to bring the flock back to where you want them to graze, but you don't do it. Somewhere inside of yourself you think, " they'll grow up and know whats right?one day?and they will?appreciate?me for putting up with them".?
