Everyone regardless of age, color, sex and culture have encountered acne at some point in their lives. Acne is considered by many as one of the major skin afflictions of the modern world. While teenagers are the prime acne sufferers, adults are not spared as well. While adulthood is considered to be an acne-free period, some people still continue to experience acne and this becomes an uphill battle for them. Acne can become a serious condition if left untreated and it can have nefarious psychological effects resulting in low self-confidence, low self-esteem and even depression. Many people are concerned about their looks and having an acne-ridden face surely does not help.
First and foremost, let?s understand how acne is developed. Acne is triggered mostly by hormonal fluctuations which naturally occur during puberty for teenagers. Your skin?s oil glands also known as the sebaceous glands tend to produce more oil or sebum than usual during this period. When this happens, your skin?s pores become clogged due to the excess oil and this invites bacteria and toxins in resulting in a pimple, blackhead or whitehead. Plucking at your pimples is never a good idea as it can in fact worsen your acne condition since it creates a hole in your skin making it even more vulnerable to dirt and impurities. You?d better consult your dermatologist first and ask for advice before doing anything which you might regret later on.
Acne treatment is definitely possible but you must ensure you?re doing the right thing with your skin and not exposing it to too much trial and error by buying many different types of off-the-shelf acne products. Your skin can be sensitive to certain ingredients which can lead to side-effects so caution is advised. Sometimes it?s difficult to know for sure what really works unless you try but do your homework well first and educate yourself. You also need to understand that what works for somebody else doesn?t necessarily mean it will work for you too as each person is different.
I?m a firm believer in natural home acne remedies and I believe they work for the majority of people. One home acne remedy which I?ve used in the past is green tea notably dried green tea leaves. Green tea leaves are also known as Camellia Sinensis and when you boil them, you can collect the green tea extract which is a herbal derivative from the leaves. Green tea is loaded with powerful antioxidants known as catechins notably epigallocatechin gallate which is a type of salubrious polyphenol. Polyphenols are also found in certain foods like garlic, onions and fruits.
Once you collect the green tea extract, apply it on the affected areas with a clean towel or cotton. Constantly tap for about 10-15 minutes and do this process everyday for 3 weeks straight, the longer the better. What this does is drying up your acne and thanks to the antioxidants, your pimples will shrink by themselves and eventually disappear. Patience and perseverance are the qualities you?ll need for this treatment.
Caution: Be sure to let the green tea extract cool down till warm temperature before applying to avoid getting burnt.
In your quest of getting rid of acne, you should regularly do green tea infusions. Not only is green tea effective for external acne treatment but for internal acne treatment as well. Drinking green tea on a regular basis like 2-3 cups per day will also be beneficial for healing acne as it will get rid of internal toxins and impurities which are some of the primary culprits of acne development and proliferation. Green tea is also abundant in carotenoids, tocopherols and other phytochemical compounds which are really good for health by preventing heart diseases, kidney stones and other health ailments.
