• Conservative Teen Radio Host Slams President Obama For 'Making Kids Gay'

A West Virginia-based teen radio host is making waves after proclaiming that President Obama "is making kids gay" in a recent episode. Fourteen-year-old Caiden Cowger, who hosts the twice-weekly "Caiden Cowger Show," made his anti-gay proclamations in a recent broadcast, video of which was uploaded to his YouTube channel on May 26. "Homosexuality is a belief," Cowger, who has previously interviewed former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain, declares. "The person is not born that way, no matter what Lady Gaga says...it is a decision." After confessing that he was once friends with some kids who have since come out as gay, he notes, "They were not homosexuals [then]...they just decided all of a sudden, 'I think I'm going to be gay,'" before he eventually concludes, "I'm going to tell you this, guys: President Obama...Vice President Biden...is making kids gay!" Read the full story here.

  • HRC Releases Landmark New Study On LGBT Youth

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth are twice as likely to say they have been physically assaulted, kicked or shoved at school. Ninety-two percent say they hear negative messages about being LGBT through school, the Internet and peers, while 42 percent say the community they live in is not accepting of LGBT people. Those are just three of the more disturbing statistics unveiled by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) as part of its "Growing Up LGBT In America" survey, released to coincide with the start of the advocacy group's incoming president Chad Griffin's tenure. Read the full story here.

  • Pundit Compares Gays To Cannibals, Says Conservatives Should 'Reclaim' Discrimination

A prominent right-wing pundit has expressed some eyebrow-raising views on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community once again, saying he wants conservatives to "reclaim discrimination," and even comparing gays to "people who...eat the faces off homeless people." As Right Wing Watch is reporting, Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association sounded off on his "Focal Point" talk show, telling his audience that conservatives should "discriminate...unapologetically" when it comes to homosexuality. "It is altogether right for a rational culture to discriminate against homosexual behavior," Fischer said. "I am saying, yes, that's exactly what DOMA does and it should...because [homosexuality] is not a benign alternative to heterosexuality...we ought to discriminate." Read the full story here.

  • Washington Gay Marriage Law Blocked As Opponents Submit Signatures For Referendum

Washington's gay marriage law was blocked from taking effect Wednesday, as opponents filed more than 200,000 signatures seeking a public vote on the issue in November. Preserve Marriage Washington submitted the signatures just a day before the state was to begin allowing same-sex marriages. State officials will review the signatures over the next week to determine if proposed Referendum 74 will qualify for a public vote, though the numbers suggest the measure will make the ballot easily. Read the full story here.

  • Ohio Music Teacher Claims Job Offer At Christian School Was Rescinded Because He's Gay

An Ohio-based music teacher claims he was offered a job at a Christian school, only to have the offer rescinded hours later when he revealed to officials he was gay. As Cincinnati.com is reporting, Jonathan Zeng says he'd accepted a position at Cincinnati's Armleder School, a division of the non-denominational Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, last week after several days of extensive interviews. But shortly after accepting the job, Zeng says school officials asked him if he was gay before citing a Cincinnati Hills policy against employing teachers who live as homosexuals because they would be around children and the school believes in the sanctity of marriage. Read the full story here.

  • Highest Number Of Anti-Gay Murders Ever Reported In 2011

More murders motivated by anti-gay bias occurred last year than any year since the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs began collecting data in 1998, the national advocacy organization reported this week. In 2011, 30 fatally violent hate crimes were committed against lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender victims, 3 more than the previous year's total. At the same time, overall reports of anti-gay hate violence were down last year. But the authors of the report don't think the drop in reports of violence actually reflects a drop in violence. The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs collects its data through 41 member programs across the country who receive calls and reports of LGBT hate crimes in the local communities. The authors of the report said they suspected a link between the rise in murders and the drop in overall reports of violence -- when more murders occur the small centers are overwhelmed and able to conduct less community outreach. Read the full story here.

  • Vatican Attacks Nun's Book On Sexuality, Claims It Poses 'Grave Harm'

The Vatican on Monday sharply criticized a book on sexuality written by a prominent American nun, saying it contradicted church teaching on issues like masturbation, homosexuality and marriage and that its author had a "defective understanding" of Catholic theology. The Vatican's orthodoxy office said the book, "Just Love: A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics" by Sister Margaret Farley, a member of the Sisters of Mercy religious order and emeritus professor of Christian ethics at Yale Divinity School, posed "grave harm" to the faithful. Read the full story here.

  • Sarah Jessica Parker's Obama Ad: NOM Says Clip Implies President Advocates Polygamy And Incest

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has condemned Sarah Jessica Parker's Obama for America campaign ad, citing the clip as implying that the president intends to redefine marriage to include both polygamy and incest. "[Obama] is now in favor of redefining marriage so that it can be any union at all -- which is to say, he is in favor of abolishing any publicly normative definition of marriage," Carson Holloway at CatholicVote writes on NOM's official blog. "If 'you should be able to marry anyone you want,' then you should be able to marry someone who is already married, you should be able to marry your father, your mother, your sister, your brother, whoever." Holloway then concludes, "Taken as stated, the president's position, proclaimed by his actress-spokesperson, is to personally advocate polygamous and even incestuous marriages." Read the full story here.
